Solving the car log book problem with GPS Log Book

Over the years I have owned a few businesses and also used my personal car for company business where I was able to claim for that mileage. The problem with a logbook is that so often you forget to use it. That has cost me many hundreds if not thousands of dollars in costs that I couldn’t claim from an employer, or against my business tax. Often you are in a hurry and don’t have time to get out the book, check the odometer, find a pen, note down the time, locations and reasons for the trip.

I have recently discovered and been using a very cool low cost device that has totally solved this problem for me. It is called GPS Log Book. It is a little device that plugs into my car’s cigarette lighter socket as shown in this image. You don’t need to even think about it, you just plug it in, start the car and away you go. It finds the GPS satellites and has internal storage where it keeps track of each trip you take, where you went, time of day and stores it on its own memory. It also has a handy little socket which you can use to plug in your car navigation or other devices you may use in the car.

It comes with synchronisation software for your PC and installation is simple even for those who are technophobes. It comes with a cable that you plug into a USB port on your computer and next thing you know it is uploading your trips into a smart software package that uses Google Maps.

There is a lot more functionality and if this is of interest to you, you can learn more on their website (and in upcoming blogs) where for use in New Zealand you can pick one up at a great discount if you use my Promo Voucher Code of SOLOMO this will reduce the already ridiculously cheap price from $129 to $109 plus delivery.

“Claiming your company or personal vehicle usage rebates and benefits on IRD Tax Returns has never been easier. Did you know you can claim up to 5000 business kilometres at 74 cents each! That’s up to $3700 per year if you’re self employed or using a private vehicle for business travel.”
