Six Tips to Improve Your Writing
ChicagoNow (blog)
As students at all levels head back to the classroom this fall, and as e-mails become more and more the way we communicate, now is a good time to review some basic writing skills.
Great advice for writers and especially for bloggers. Just to reinforce a few points.
1, Blogging is a form of story telling. If as the reader, I feel that you are talking to me and are sharing information that you believe will be interesting and helpful to me,I will accept it as the gift that it is.
2. Read a lot and pay attention to what resonates with you. what do you like about the writing. Use post it notes, make notes, use highlighter. Is it the lack of jargon, is it phrasing? Is it use of punctuation, or even capitalisation? What person is the writer speaking in?
3. If you like the writer, find more of their work. It could be a fiction writer, a journalist, a blogger, doesn’t matter. Increase your vocab, but that doesn’t mean you should add obtuse words apropos of nothing.
4. Don’t use a paragraph when a sentence will do.
5. Write about what you know.
