A Solution For The GPS Jammer Threat
The U.S. Department of Defense is spending more research dollars on developing a jam resistant replacement, or backup (depending on who you talk to), for GPS.
This is good news from a defense perspective. I’m interested to know what the laws are on GPS jamming in the civilian space. Obviously there are also gyros, cell assist and other technologies in the consumer space. I would hope that civilian use of GPS jamming equipment in general terms would be illegal given the future ongoing reliance on this technology for navigation, especially when we get more vehicles that are driver-less and remotely controlled. Current examples would be complexes like mining sites, but also airports. But the future of driver-less cars requires a degree of safety that can not be tampered with by misguided pranksters, criminals or terrorists.
