Ahead of Swarm’s release next week, Foursquare freezes mayors ‘for the time …
The Next Web
Foursquare today revealed more details about its service split into its existing app and its new Swarm app, which it now says is coming next week.
So what do you think? Is Foursquare reinventing itself or hedging its bets. I suspect that most people who use Foursquare consistently will either use one or the other, but not both. So may question is, will they dilute their brand and take a nosedive, or pivot and crate a new brand which reinvigorates their value.
People are pretty clear that they get app fatigue and don’t want loads of location based apps. They want a small number that provide real value.
I’ve put my name down to be advised when Swarm is available and will share my findings. Certainly I have been getting bored with Foursquare as it stands and have been waiting for new innovations. I don’t travel as much as I used to. Travel to new cities and towns and keeping a diary were the main reasons I really valued Foursquare in the past. It is fun to see friends and sometimes compete with them, but the rest is starting to get tired.
