Uber to launch cheaper service in Johannesburg
CASHLESS driver-hailing app Uber will introduce its cheaper uberX service in Johannesburg on Thursday, slashing its ride costs in the city by about 35% compared with its standard offering.
It’s bookshops and record stores all over again, but this time it’s a service. We have all heard about Uber, the taxi drivers are claiming foul, but just like the retailers, to me there are a few key things to think about/
1. If the taxi industry was totally scrupulous and focused on value for money, they would continue to reinvent themselves, focusing on customer desires and needs and the threat would be significantly reduced. Taxis could be much more user friendly, look at www.airnztaxis.co.nz for a solution that works and is fair for all.
2. If Uber helps drive to fewer people owning cars, that has to be good for our cities and the planet right? If we can’t collaborate and get car pooling and public transport sorted to meet our needs, then we need to change.
3. See 1. I see so many taxi’s overcharging, confusing customers, taking them long way, short cuts that don’t work, even asking them which way they would like to go, knowing that half of their customers wouldn’t know what that meant.
